The "One Heart, One Child - ADOPT" t-shirt logo was originally designed as a fundraising project, benefiting organizations in South Korea such as the Sung Ae Won orphanage, Esther's House (home for pregnant women), Jacob's Home (home for disabled children), and SWS (Social Welfare Society).
I am a Korean adoptee (adopted when I was 8 months old through AIAA and SWS), born Kim, Eun Mee, and became Allison Boulard when I came to the States in 1977. It has always been a dream of mine to return to see the country, experience the culture, and meet the people of my homeland.
My husband, Joe, and I recently traveled to South Korea on a Homeland Tour this past June (with The Ties Program, which we would highly recommend - www.adoptivefamilytravel.com). Having never been to Korea before, I wanted to contribute all I could to the orphanages and agencies that we were privileged to visit, so I initially designed the "One Heart One Child" logo to be printed on t-shirts to raise funds. My very talented brother-in-law then completed the graphics for me, and the shirts were soon under way. In the span of only a few months, my husband and I were able to sell our entire stock of the shirts, and even had to place orders for more.
Over the next couple of months, we came to realize that the design was universal, having no emphasis on specific countries or genders, and that the number of people embracing and supporting adoption/adoptees was staggering.
In August 2005, I decided to turn my design, "One Heart, One Child" into a small business in order to make the shirts available to as many others as possible.
In the near future, I am hoping to add new designs to my line of products, as well as some handcrafted and customized items. My hope and dream is that others will use my products to help finance their adoptions/homeland trips/agencies, for their own enjoyment, or simply as a way to share the joy of adoption with others.
Thank you for sharing my dream.
